Old book, new title

I was so disappointed to discover that this was the same book that I had already bought under another name. It used to be called "The Ancient Gods Speak: A guide to Egyptian religion." This book in turn consists of a compilation of all the articles related to religion that were initially published in the Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt.
For those who do not have access to either the book under its older name, or the excellent Encyclopdia, than this would be a worthwhile purchase. It covers many of the major aspects of Egytpian religion, though it also leaves out many. In terms of ease of reading, the type is really small! I found it extremely difficult to read.

An excellent source of data for debunking conspiracy theories about Egypt

My friends and I did a video collab project to examine some claims made by a film called Zeitgeist. The director of the film himself started messaging us via his clandestine YouTube account to discuss our findings and his later films excluded the nonsense he was spewing about Jesus being a spin-off of Egyptian mythology. A job well done! History may be written by the victors but is corrected by archeology.

A bit jumbled

This book, which has also been published as The Ancient Gods Speak, consists of articles on religious subjects culled from The Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt. The article selection casts a broad net, extending even to particular types of ritual objects like offering tables, funerary cones, and masks. It's far less cumbersome than the parent book, but the selection of articles is haphazard. It seems to have been based on the religion section of the encyclopedia's table of contents. For instance, this book is missing the articles on mythological texts and hymns (because they're listed in the literature section of the table of contents) and temples (because that article is listed under architecture—even though tombs, which are also listed there, are included!). The worst omission is the article on religion in general, left out for no reason I can discern, though Redford wrote an introduction specifically for this volume that discusses some of the basics and gives the context for the articles themselves. The lengthy lists of further reading that come with each article in the full encyclopedia are reduced to a more general further reading list at the end of the book. The articles on individual deities are nearly all here, and this book may work best as a source for discussions of the major gods. Obviously the full book is preferable if available, though for most people it's not, owing to its price and size.

Didn't Notice Any Results But Good Advice in General

My father and I tried this diet out for 4 months. I am type B and he is type A. We bought the recipe book, the main book and this book. We were VERY dedicated and did not notice anything. He has fibromyalgia and joint issues and thought this might help but he found no change at all. I have various annoying things that I was hoping this diet would maybe help even show glimpses of helping and I didn't notice anything either. It does remind me to make good choices, balance, and be aware of what I am eating so that was at least helpful!!

This has to be one of the stranger pairings of Jayne Ann Krentz/Jayne Castle books. After Dark is the prequel to After Glow - just out recently under the Castle name. It was a super paranormal/off-world tale that I really adored and thought it a great, vibrant tale, much in the old Krentz mold. Strangely, it was not received well by her fans at the time - before the big Paranormal Romance boom. Its reception was so cold that her publisher put off putting out anymore in this series for nearly four years. I guess the Paranormals burning up the charts caused them to rethink that line, and they brought out the sequel to After Dark - After Glow - which received great reviews. My, my what a time frame can mean to the readers mind? Soft Focus was a very enjoyable Single Title Romantic Suspense (meaning before Krentz and her publishers started doing the Trilogy releases - 1 good strong tale followed by two weaker ones). It was a very enjoyable read, but not Krentz at her best. So why the putting of the Krentz tale and the Castle Tale together, where there is nothing to connect them, especially since both are still in print? My guess to get your money. How many people buy this without looking closely to see they are reprints? I could see putting After Dark and After Glow into one double book, they belong together. This marketing smacks of just wanting more bucks.

After Dark was a great Off-World tale of Harmony, where earth travellers colonised and then were cut off from Earth connections when the "curtain" closed. (See Amaryllis, Zinnia and Orchard, books set on the same planet). A race of aliens once lived on the planet, leaving behind vast underground ruins, all protected by "trap" illusions. It takes a special sort of "detangler" to derazzle the traps that were known to fry people's minds. Lydia Smith is a detangler for an archaeologist team working in the eerie green glowing underground. When something goes wrong, Lydia finds herself without a job or a professional reputation. In comes Emmett London, who is tracking down lost antiques. He hires Lydia as a consultant. Alien ghosts and "traps" start haunting the couple left and right as it's obvious someone doesn't want the team to solve the riddle of the missing alien artifacts. Lydia and Emmett sizzle. This was one paranormal that was ahead of the pack.

In Soft Focus, Elizabeth is an all business heroine (typical JAK!). She applies the same cost and profit in her business life to her romance life. So after a one night stand with Jack Fairfax, and Elizabeth discovers Jack deceived her, she wants to cut her losses. Jack is not willing to let her do it, and uses their business contract to keep a leash on the spunky lady.

Jack owns Excalibur, a cutting edge technology firm. When he discovers there is sabotage going on that could put them both in the red financially, Elizabeth has to let Jack back into her life. If she helps Jack save Excalibur, she stands to make millions of dollars. Together they search for a missing scientist who made off with a new special crystal. Elizabeth and Jack follow the clues to a film festival and the fun begins, with Jack keeping an eye on winning Elizabeth back as well as saving his firm.

Two very enjoyable reads. Two oddly mismatched books. If you are a JAK fan, check your shelves. You likely already own both!
Super use of Multi-POV (Point of View), the way all romances should be written!

Old is new again.

If you haven't read these two books before they combined them into this one title, you will really enjoy this. However, Krentz stories are so good and original, that you never forget a story. So, why would her fans want this repackaged book? I love Krentz' work under any nom de plume. And her jaunts into other worlds is just plain fun. I hope she continues. Just give us new ones! We will eat them up.

Hilarious vampire romance! Must read series

I couldn't stop laughing. Total homerun, way out of the park. This book is Vampire chick lit, in a good way. For humor, I rate this book and, in fact, this whole series up with the Spellman Files by LIsa Lutz, which made me laugh constantly. The Spellman Files: A Novel For other good vampire humor see Christopher Moore, especially his novel, You Suck You Suck: A Love Story. Or if you want funny with a female protagonist and haven't read the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, then you need to start there. One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, No. 1)

You don't have to start with the first book in this series, but I recommend that if you haven't yet read it then buy and read, Undead and Unwed. Undead and Unwed (Queen Betsy, Book 1)

A modern unlife

Betsy Taylor is still dead, still obsessed with shoes and fashion, and still unhappy with her newfound role as queen of the vampires. And "Undead & Unemployed" is every bit as much fun as its predecessor, "Undead & Unwed." Betsy is an irrepressible vampire queen, obsessed with the finer things in life while still somewhat queasy over the realities of walking death.

MaryJanice Davidson has a deft hand for her chosen genre niche -- and, believe it or not, humorous romantic horror seems to be a growing field. Fortunately for fans, Davidson seems to have a deep well to draw from.

This series is not the usual vampire story line. Lots of light fun to read.

Queen Betsy is a very unusual vampire! She doesn't like to be the Queen, but can't avoid it because she is 'different'! She is impervious to holy water, crosses, and such stuff.

She has a job in a store selling very high quality shoes, (Jimmy Cho, etc) where she gets a discount! Unfortunately, she gets fired because
a group of malcontents who don't like her are attempting to destroy her with a major betrayal.

If you like non-serious and twisty plots, you'll like this book!

Adventure tales for boys (and girls) of all ages have no more vigorous champion today than Cussler, who has kept the spirit of Joe and Frank Hardy alive, albeit on a grander scale, in numerous bestsellers. This 17th Dirk Pitt extravaganza finds Cussler (literally, as he makes a cameo at book's end) and his entourage of paint-by-number characters in fine fettle, foiling a dastardly plot by outlandish villains to launch a new ice age, and at the same time demonstrating that the Achaeans were not Greeks but Celts, and that Troy was a town in what's now England. After a prelude set during the Trojan War, the novel proper starts with a roar, as a monstrous hurricane sweeps toward the Caribbean, endangering not only Pitt's twin son and daughter, engaged in undersea exploration, but also the Ocean Wanderer, a luxury floating hotel owned by a mysterious billionaire known as Specter. In a manly manner, Pitt and his longtime sidekick, Al Giordino, both of NUMA (the National Underwater and Marine Agency), save the hotel and Pitt's grown kids, but not before those kids discover a trove of underwater relics that indicate that the Celts, aka Achaeans, reached the New World millennia ago. And the Celts are still here, in the guise of a female Druidic cult linked to Specter and aiming for world domination by altering ocean currents via a vast underground mechanism in Nicaragua, which will plunge the earth into cold, then selling a new type of cheap fuel cell to supply needed heat. The action never flags, the heroics never halt and the bodies pile up as Pitt and Co. take on the villains; some big changes in Pitt's personal life close the book.

The latest Dirk Pitt thriller, like its 16 predecessors, is ready made for the big screen. (Let's hope it makes a better movie than 1980's Raise the Titanic, also based on a Pitt adventure, which gives you some idea of how long the series has been around.) A hurricane threatens an undersea resort hotel; meanwhile, Dirk Pitt's twin offspring are trapped at the bottom of the ocean in Pisces, an underwater laboratory. Oh, and Dirk himself swoops in to rescue the hotel, and its guests--but what about his children? Cussler has written a lot of seabound thrillers, and he clearly knows how to put one together to get maximum excitement from minimal material. Everything is done in shorthand, from the disaster-movie-plot setup to the characters and dialogue. There's the evil-named Specter, the man behind the hotel, "with a heart of cold stone." There are the twins, whose dialogue sounds like it was lifted from a Hardy Boys novel ("I want to take a closer look inside the cavern where I found the urn." "Can you find it in the dark?" "Like a fox to its lair"). In a nutshell, this novel offers precisely what readers have come to expect from a Dirk Pitt adventure: danger, heroics, villains, heroes. David Pitt

Ooops Clive!

After reading some of the less flattering reviews I decided to read Trojan Odyssey for myself, not believing one of my favorite guilty pleasures could have missed so badly. Sad to say, though many of the "Cussler" gimmicks are still included, they seem weak, over done and flat in the overall plot this time. Dirk's kids are just not interesting and after spending so much time with them before the plot takes any real "action" I wanted to send them to their room for quiet time. Dirk (Sr.) is getting long in the tooth and would be better served if replaced permenantly with Kurt Austin ( a doppleganger to be sure, but hey, no insufferable offspring yet.). Maybe Clive is stretching himself too thin these days, maybe his flare for exciting thrillers is running dry. Whatever it is, I hope this is only a blip, and if he needs three or four years between books to get back in top form, I'm willing to wait before crossing him off my must read list - after all, so many books, so little time!

Seriously mad

This book consist of a novel I already own in my collection, Catching Midnight. I can not believe the publisher did this to us and to charge the amount they charged?!?! Not only that but Luisa's Desire was so boring. I couldn't even get past the fourth page. Catching Midnight was good tho but I recommend you save some money and boy the stand alone novel. I hope Emma Holly will not allow her publisher to do this again.

Just buy the novel

I somehow missed the fact that this was a novel I already had packaged with a novella I didn't have. I liked the novel; the novella is nothing special. Slight. I hate this tricky repackaging stuff publishers are doing so much of lately.

I've enjoyed everything else I've read from Holly, but was terribly disappointed with this one. I found the whole plot with the upyr's boring and had to force myself to finish the novel. The novella was even worse.
