Four all-new stories that show there's no place like a wedding to catch the perfect man.

To go down the aisle or not to go down the aisle. Is that even a question? Well, it depends on whether you're the bride or just a bridesmaid-for the fifth straight time. Or whether an old flame is determined to wreck the wedding weekend. It's enough to make a girl say "I don't." Now, these brand-new stories about four matrimonially-challenged women demonstrate how one of life's best days can go so wrong-and still be sexy, hilarious, and deliciously right.

entertaining anthology
By D. K. Stokes
***½ "Brides Gone Wild" by Cathie Linz.

This is a cute story, set in the same town as Good Girls Do. The heroine is a wedding floral designer in a small town, and her ex returns to town for one of the five weddings on one weekend, and everything's going wrong. I had trouble believing a small town could support a florist that only does weddings, and it didn't have the depth of her full-length book, but it was still fun to read.

***½ "Heaven Can't Wait" by Pamela Clare.

Whew. This one starts in the middle of a sex scene. It actually fits, since the fact that sex is good and easy (too good? too easy?) between them is what prompts the heroine to proclaim a moratorium on sex for the two weeks before the wedding. Which is what made this a less-than-4-star read for me. I've never understood the concept of not having sex when you both want to and there's no legal or moral reason not to. (I realize this makes me sound like a slut. But hey, it worked for me--nearly 25 years of wedded bliss here.) By the end, they do work through some real issues, though, and it was entertaining watching them try to seduce the other into giving in first, even if I didn't like the reason why.

****½ "So Caught up in You" by Beverly Brandt.

I had to double-check the name of the author on this. (Beverly Brandt = Jacey Ford) The story is w/a Beverly Brandt, but it has the adventure and excitement of a Jacey Ford story, not to mention the Rules of Engagement company from Dead Heat. Which is perfectly fine with me. I enjoy this author's writing whichever name she's using. Tasha's sister is getting married in the jungle and she finds out some disturbing information about the wedding coordinator, so she decides to investigate... and finds herself in the middle of human traficking and trying to conceal a dead body. It's fast-paced, fun, and sexy. A lot of story packed into a short novella.

**** "The Wedding Party" by Whitney Lyles.

Call this chick lit instead of romance, and change the last line, and I'll give it an extra half a star. This is a very ambitious story for a novella: Meg's looking forward to her friend's wedding because her ex will be there, and she's decided she made a big mistake in breaking up with him, and he's The One. So she has to deal with her feelings for him, and the difference between her fantasies and reality, as well as dealing with not fitting in with the other bridesmaids and falling in love with someone else. Alternatively, it would be nice to see it expanded into a full-length novel. There's enough material here for it.

Good read!
By Huntress Reviews
"Catch of the Day" is a collection of four short romantic, wedding stories by different authors beginning with Brides Gone Wild by Cathie Linz which is the charming story of Pam Greenley, a floral designer, who runs into her first love and high school sweetheart, Michael Denton. Michael ended their relationship when he left for college 10 years ago, and they have not seen each other since except at their high school reunion just a month ago when they fell into bed with each other and Michael left again without a word. Now Michael is back in town for his cousin's wedding which is only one of the five weddings that Pam is coordinating the flowers for this weekend. Pam is determined to avoid Michael, but he keeps popping up and making her realize that even though she is still attracted to him she refuses to be hurt by him again. Michael, who wrote a book called, How to Hook Your Guy, under a pen name, is determined not to get hooked in the foreseeable future but simply cannot fight his continuing attraction for Pam. Funny situations arise in this romantic comedy set in a very nosy small town in which the town gossip has her own blog!

Lissy Charteris and Will Fraser seem to have the perfect relationship. They really love each other and have the most steamy sex life until Lissy comes up with the idea of abstinence for the two weeks prior to their wedding. So The Bet and much sexual frustration ensue as Will tries to entice Lissy to attack him while she drives him to near insanity with temptation. Is this the wedge that will keep them from saying "I do"? Throw in the mother of the bride from hell who will do nearly anything to keep her daughter from walking down the aisle and you have the funny and frustrating adventure of Heaven Can't Wait by Pamela Clare.

So Caught Up in You by Beverly Brandt is a story full of adventure as Tasha O'Shaunessey is determined to make sure that her sister's adventure wedding goes smoothly in Costa Playa even though she has heard the nasty rumors concerning the wedding planner for Extreme I Do, Quinn Hayes. It is rumored that Quinn is involved in white slavery, is an ex-con, and also may be responsible for the disappearance of two film stars that vanished five years ago when Quinn was the last person to see them alive. But Tasha quickly finds out things are not always what they seem as she goes swinging over the canopy of trees in the jungle, helps to hide refugees, and aids Quinn in the coverup of the murder of the head of Costa Playa's secret police all while trying to understand her intense attraction to Quinn.

In The Wedding Party by Whitney Lyles Meg Thomlinson is hopeful to reconnect with Mason Strout the guy she dumped several months ago only to realize that maybe she made the mistake of her life. They are both in her best friend's wedding party, and Meg is hoping that they can pick up where they left off. But just when Meg thinks life is back on track with Mason she meets Bill who is also in the wedding party and is now wondering if he could possibly be the man of her dreams especially when they get stranded in Mexico together.

**** I really enjoyed these combined romantic stories which make a fun and delightful read as four women each find their `Catch of the Day'! This book would make an entertaining beach read. ****

Review for Pamela Clare's, Heaven Can't Wait
By Scorpio M.
This review & grade is ONLY for Pamela Clare's piece: HEAVEN CAN'T WAIT.
I read this as a stand alone e-book that has just been released. Incidently, this is an I-Team story for those that are fans of the series.

Lissy & Will are about to be married, they love each other and have a great sex life. You will be introduced to it from page 1, so be prepared for some hot & heavy love making scenes. Lissy comes from money but is far from starry-eyed and spoiled, as she has witnessed the cold and unhappy union that was her parents' marriage. Will is from humble means, once a top football prospect, his aspirations were dashed as he got injured prior to even starting a pro-career. He also watched his mother, who had sacrificed so much for him as a single parent, die of cancer. Will is no simpleminded, money hungry, former jock. He understands the meaning of sweat and loss.

Lissy decides that she wants to abstain from sex prior to their wedding night, which is 2 weeks away, to honor tradition. Will doesn't want to but when faced with a wager of keeping his lady happy or wearing PINK (*gasp*) cumberbunds, he relents and the fun begins. Watching this horny couple, who are madly in love with one another, fight their desires was some seriously funny entertainment. Throw in some sidekicks who egg 'em on and you have a party.

I was all set to simply enjoy this whimsical romp, not expecting anything too serious, knowing that the happily ever after was just around the corner when Clare went and turned the table and did what she does best: she went for the jugular. When Will confronts Lissy about the true reason behind the wager, she caught me (and probably Lissy) by surprise. In one line (delivered by Will), Clare revealed that she understands the multi-faceted nature of human beings, that love, lust, laughter can coincide with vulnerability & that the baggage one carries is never too far behind. It is this poignancy that catapulted this sweet, funny, short story into a tale with depth and tendre.

From Booklist
More than 50 years after the popular Mrs. Mike, the third in the series focuses on Mrs. Mike's granddaughter, Kathy, who was born to a Cree mother and an Austrian soldier who separated shortly after her birth. The saga traces Kathy's journey from western Canada to Minnesota, Chicago, New York, and Montreal as she follows her dream of singing the Cree songs she learned from her mother and Elk Woman, her beloved mentor. Kathy's mother dies when she is but 17. She then abruptly marries a con artist, one of several hasty decisions, including giving her newborn daughter to their childless landlords because her ne'er-do-well husband convinces her it's for the best. Kathy experiences huge success, rejection, the loss of a lover, and finally devastating illness but never loses her love for singing. "I sang the years, I sang death, I sang rebirth, I sang it all," she tells herself. The Freedmans present a moving family saga and a paean to Native American values, nicely linking their three decades-spanning novels. Deborah Donovan

Through the eyes of Kathy III
By Cheryl Stout
I read and loved Mrs. Mike, published in 1947, when I was a young girl. I just read and thoroughly enjoyed The Search for Joyful: A Mrs. Mike Novel published in 2002.

I was really looking forward to "Kathy Little Bird," published in 2004. I wanted to find out about Kathy Forquet and Erich von Kerll's daughter Kathy.

The beginning of the book is hard to get into. It takes quite a few pages to figure out what happened in the interim between the two books. I do NOT like the woman that Kathy Forquet has allowed herself to become in this book. She went from vibrant, self sufficient, joyful to downtrodden.

And I am not too fond of Kathy Little Bird's character. I thought the book was written well but the main character was someone that used other people and thought only of herself.

Each of the three books in this series are totally different but well worth reading, I believe. Even this one - we don't always have to like the characters we are reading about to make it a good story.

Enjoyed it
By Johanna Osment
I loved Mrs. Mike, was underwhelmed by The Search for Joyful and glad I decided to read this third book in the series, Kathy Little Bird. Glad I did. I very much enjoyed this one. Just as is the case with many movies, sequels don't always measure up to the original. I like reading book series and overall the Mrs. Mike books are one of the best I've read. Three generations of interesting women and their stories. All very different but tied together with their history.

Pretty Good
By Silver
This book is SO MUCH better than that terrible book, Search for Joyful. Granted, there are some unanswered questions in the story, still this is a good book. The writing is much more clear and easy to read, and the main character, Kathy is so much more likeable and not so wishy washy like the Kathy in Search for Joyful.

In this book, Kathy is the daughter of Kathy Forquet and Erich Von Kerll, she has never met her father, and wonders about him constantly during her difficulties with her stepfather. She has a talent for singing, and finds that lots of people like her singing. She eventually marries a con-artist, which is one of the mistakes that she makes.

This book is much easier to read and much more enjoyable. However, there is nothing explained about Mrs. Mike, she is only mentioned in several sentences, not to mention other characters in Search for Joyful. Also, a little unclear is the time between Search for Joyful and Kathy Little Bird. Things which aren't that well explained take place during this story.

Despite the unclear history, this is still a really good story, not like Mrs. Mike, but so much better than Search for Joyful it's almost unbelievable.

I love Sarah Hughes!

I love Sarah Hughes. Just be aware that the story ends just before the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City in which Sarah won an unexpected gold medal! There is another biography out there that includes it.

Awesome First book!
By Jen
Hi, I saw the book online and so I decided to try and go find it at the local bookstore. I was actually there to see if they had the May issue of International Figure Skating which I was very disappointed to find out they didn't carry. I went ahead and bought the book and I was so happy to get my hands on it, I read the whole thing start to finish in about an hour, stopping to look at the pictures of course :)
The book overall was great! It had her ups and downs thru the years, her fight with her mom's illness, a summer she broke her hand and nearly all her competitions. It had a great look at the skaters Sarah has faced and how she did in her programs. She works so hard and is so dedicated! This is a great book to just sit and read, but its also a wonderful collectors items just like the wheaties I found today hehe :) Thanks for listening~

It is much better than the other Sarah book by Ruth Ashby! It starts off with Sarah at the 2001 World Championships and chronicles her life better than any other Sarah book could! Then it tells a LOT about her main competitors and ends telling how prepared she is for the 2002 Olympics (which she won!!)
I would definitely give it five stars in my book!!

    A breakthrough
    By Johnny Tujeehut
I am a trainer/consultant with a academic degree in the area of adult-education. My work and "want-to-know drive" do put me in a constant search for the best way in guiding and coaching people; discover the truth about themselves. Reading ...Who am I? The 16 Basic Desires that Motivate our Actions and Define our....by Steven Reiss...was really a eye-opener.

I'm working with the ideas and the people I touch with the insights are baffled at the "thruth" of themselves.

    16 Human Basic Desires
    By FRANCESCO FERZINI
Human motives are complex and modified by culture, experiences, beliefs and values. Embracing, to a certain degree, but surely extending A. Maslow's thinking with regards to needs and wants, Dr. Steven Reiss proposes a scientific research arguing that, because of genetic variations in basic desires, no two people enjoy the same experience in the same way.

According to his research 16 basic desires drive much of human behavior. Every desire creates an opposite desire and the experience has a subjective/relative importance depending on the intensity of the feeling and importance attached to it. Difference in basic desires between people might lead to miscommunication, misunderstandings and conflict.

With no significance in their order, as he presented them in the book, here are the 16 desires:

POWER The desire to influence others

    INDEPENDENCE Desire for self-reliance

    CURIOSITY Desire for knowledge

    ACCEPTANCE Desire for inclusion

    ORDER Desire for organization

    SAVING Desire to collect things

HONOR Desire to be loyal to one's parents and heritage

    IDEALISM Desire for social justice

    SOCIAL CONTACT Desire for companionship

FAMILY Desire to raise one's own children

    STATUS Desire for social standing

    VENGEANCE Desire to get even

ROMANCE Desire for sex and beauty

    EATING Desire to consume food

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY Desire for exercise of muscles

    TRANQUILLITY Desire for emotional calm

The book is easy to read, some may consider it too long or too repetitive but, sincerely, I enjoyed it over a couple of days spent at the beach during my holidays in the Philippines, Boracay Island.

I would recommend it to all the people interested in having a better knowledge of human nature. It is a point of view worth reading.

    All the best,
    Ciao
    Francesco

    Not such a bad book.
    By J. Lyons
For those of us unlucky enough to have read various MA Theses or Ph.D Dissertations, the construction of Reiss' book will appear eerily familiar. The book is long-winded and repetitive with little room spent on introspection or variety. The basis of the book is that we are genetically programed to prefer certain values over others,e.g., romance over conservation, status over honor, etc. Our individuality is made up of the combination of things we highly value as well as those we don't. While I enjoyed reading about the basic desires, I found it silly and sophomoric to deny how life's experience affect somebody's personality. After all, no matter how social somebody may "genetically" be, a long history of child abuse will no doubt curb many of the behaviors associated with social people.

Dr. Reiss presents an evolutionary psychological perspective that I found to be more distracting than illuminating. However, that being said, the concept that a person's life is judged by the satisfaction of values close to an individual was something that I enjoyed reading. The book functions well as a quick character study. These are the major flaws as I see it.

    1. Repetitive with unimaginative writing.
    2. Reiss subjects each "value" to his criticism. Some traits are given moral equivalency,e.g., a high desire for honor implies that somebody is moral (example given: soldier), somebody with a low desire for honor is immoral(example given: bank robber). Under Reiss' definition, a value of honor was defined by upholding ethnic, religious, and traditional duties. The concept of putting morality to the values is my greatest criticism.
    3. One very important value: Family, is absolutely off limits to those without children. Family was defined as how important it is to you that you raise children. However for people without children there was no way to "record" our family rating as without children the Family value was moot.

Overall the book is a nice read but not worth a buy.

Mrs. Jeffries and the Silent Knight (A Victorian Mystery), by Emily Brightwell

Sir George Braxton was found lying face down in a frozen fountain with the back of his skull bashed to bits.  The case is complicated by a distinct lack of holiday cheer in the victim’s three argumentative middle-aged daughters and their sullen houseguests.  Even the cranky cat hates everyone. To top it all off, the Home Secretary has called in Inspector Witherspoon over the heads of some touchy local lads, making matters stickier than a plum pudding.  Only the help of his housekeeper, Mrs. Jeffries, and her crime-solving staff will give the poor Inspector any chance of sleeping in heavenly peace on Christmas Eve…

She keeps house for Inspector Witherspoon…and keeps him on his toes. Everyone’s awed by his Scotland Yard successes—but they don’t know about his secret weapon. No matter how messy the murder or how dirty the deed, Mrs. Jeffries’ polished detection skills are up to the task…proving that behind every great man there’s a woman—and that a crimesolver’s work is never done.

    Great Mystery
    By drebbles
When Sir George Braxton is found lying face down in a fountain with the back of his skull smashed in, no one mourns the murder victim. His three daughters certainly don't: Lucinda, the oldest, is free now to marry the man she loves; Nina had lost a lot of money in bad investments and fears her father's wrath; and Charlotte, the youngest, was trying to hide a serious gambling problem. There are plenty of other suspects, including two houseguests; a cousin who lives permanently at the house; the gardener, who has a criminal past; and the servants, whom Sir George has been less than kind to. Home Security calls in Inspector Gerald Witherspoon to solve the case with one catch - they want the murder solved by Christmas, which is a week away! Good thing the Inspector has Mrs. Jeffries and the rest of his household staff working behind the scenes to help him!

This is another excellent entry in a wonderful series. Emily Brightwell equally shows Witherspoon's investigation and the servant's efforts, which gives insight into all the characters. I like the fact that, while the servants to help Witherspoon, he does turn up important evidence and grows more confident in every book. These books give a good insight into what life was like for servants in the Victorian Age, comparing Witherspoon's treatment of his servants to the way Braxton treated his. As much as I enjoy the series, I can't help but wonder how the dynamic of the books will change when Smythe and Betsy finally do marry.

The mystery itself is well written and well plotted. Seemingly innocent conversations about things like missing chicken livers turn out to be important clues. And the revelation of what the murder weapon was is a surprise and well done.

This series keeps getting better and better. I've read the entire series and there's not a bad book among them. Highly recommended!

Mrs. Jeffries and a Christmas mystery!
    By Shirley Schwartz
Welcome back to my friends at Upper Edmonton Gardens. By now these people do feel like friends to me, and that is what keeps this series fresh. This one is set a week before Christmas, so Inspector Witherspoon's staff are busy trying to get ready for the festive occasion, as well as solve a perplexing murder. This is a murder with too many suspects since no one, not even his family, liked Baronet George Braxton. He has three obnoxious daughters and one "cousin" living with him, and all had reason to dislike him. But they do figure it all out, just in time to celebrate the season.

CAPTAIN MEADOWS DOES IT AGAIN! INCOMPARABLE MILITARY THRILLER!
    By betty l. dravis
I became a fan of this author when I read the fourth book in this series. It was intriguing, exciting ... a book I could not put down. (It helped that there were so many fine, young military men in the book too. I adore men in uniform.)

So, of course, I had to go back and read the other three in this fantastic military thriller, starting with JTF:Liberia. Now I've read them all and each was as good as the previous.

Retired Captain David E. Meadows is a fantastic author who really knows his subject. Realistic, well fleshed-out characters and dialogue, plus an exciting plot--what more could a reader want?

Now, for me, it's back to read his first series: THE SIXTH FLEET. Anyone care to join me? You will have the "reads" of your life. I kid you not!

What happened to the international incidents??
    By Andrew W. Johns
This is the eleventh book in the Op-Center series, and is the weakest story yet. Instead of an international crisis or espionage mission, Op-Center finds itself the target of a budget axe, and must downsize. At the same time, Op-Center finds itself drawn into a murder investigation that entangles it in the vicious world of Washington politics.

This book is trying hard to question the motivations and agendas of the powers-that-be in Washington, but fails to hit its target. In the end this book feels more like a worn-out detective story that happens to involve Op-Center characters. Hopefully, future volumes in this series will return to the international stage, where the stories are more interesting, and the potential consequences create more tension.

    Review of Call To Treason
    By David K. Evans
I really do get disappointed by the commercialism of the 'Tom Clancy' authors these days. While it is undoubtedly a legitimate technique to utilize the worlds and characters created by other authors, this particular work will never be anything like a Clancy at its best.

As these series develop they seem less and less like Clancy.

The characters are becoming unbelievable and the plots lack both plausibility and grit. The "Clancy" of old exploded nuclear weapons in the USA, overturned corrupt presidential régimes and had key characters die when least expected. He took risks based on somewhat believable, though remote, probabilities and displayed to us all some wonderfully flawed characters.

The flawed General Rodgers and Paul Hood of Op-Centre despite their almost diametrically opposed judgments both succeed at the end, but reality isn't like that. It is inevitable that this plot will resolve in the best way for the ongoing society that is the US of A, though the reality of September 11 clearly indicates that truth is never as glowing as Op-Center's successes.

All that said if this wasn't plastered with Tom Clancy's name all over it, the book could probably stand as a reasonable airplane read.

There is a rapidly developing plot but the reader is given too many facts when the surprises could have been so much better had they been revealed later in the plot.

The first murder is engrossing, carefully thought out and well paced but then it all goes downhill. Rovin can obviously write, arouse emotion and deliver action but he is just not able to put this incredibly complex plot together. I doubt anyone could. Maybe it was released for the USA election fever.

Op-center needs to go back to its roots - action, technology, planning and teamwork. I can only hope that number 12 finds its way there. Smart plots building on the characters already developed, with a few surprises, will lead this team back from the wilderness. I hope so as airplane seats are getting smaller and a good yarn is essential to pass the time.

    Awful, awful, awful
    By nomar garciapudding
The helicopters on the cover of this novel are actually flying through all the massive holes in this story's plot.

The final resolution requires the reader to make too many ridiculous leaps. Obviously it's fiction, but the author never draws me in to the world he's attempting to craft. The characters are dry and without depth and most of the dialogue reads like it was written by a 4th grader.

I begrudingly give it two stars because I did stick with it till the end because I HAD to know how it was all going to end ... so I guess that says something.

*Starred Review* When we last saw the Fyne sisters, witches all, in The Sun Witch (2004), Sophie was on the run with her husband, Kane, their baby daughter, and Kane's rebel troops. This book opens with imperial troops capturing Juliet and Isadora. Isadora uses her magic to kill the soldier closest to her to instill fear in her captors. Juliet is captured by Ryn, an Anwyn, who becomes a wolf at night and claims her as his life mate. More than that, she is part of an Anwyn prophecy, and she doesn't like it. Worst still, she is falling for her brave wolf-man, which is not a good thing, because the Fyne sisters are under a curse that kills the man they love before his thirtieth birthday. Isadora is imprisoned in the emperor's castle, her fate resting in the hands of the capricious and often sadistic queen. Like its predecessor, this is a cliff-hanger. Will Isadora use her magic for the forces of darkness? Will 29-year-old Kane survive his next birthday? Will Juliet accept her destiny? Will the evil emperor triumph? Book three won't be out fast enough. Shelley Mosley

    From Publishers Weekly
In the crowded field of Regency romances, Chase's work (The Lion's Daughter) is distinguished by its ironic tone, witty writing and narrative drive; her latest is no exception. Benedict Carsington, the Viscount Rathbourne, has the reputation of a perfect gentleman, which in 1821 London society means controlled, haughty and above reproach. By contrast, Bathsheba Wingate is about as disreputable as a Wingate gets, having been born to the notorious DeLucey branch of the family, a "completely untrustworthy" bunch who have "made themselves famous for their scandals." Widowed by a disinherited man, Bathsheba struggles to make ends meet and to provide every opportunity for her strong-willed daughter, Olivia—who, much to her mother's dismay, absconds in search of buried treasure, accompanied by Benedict's nephew and informal ward. Drawn to each other from the moment they meet, Bathsheba and Benedict strive to suppress their desires as they chase the little rascals right into the pristine stronghold of the disapproving Wingates. Readers will relish the loosening of Benedict's perfect control and the endearing, dry humor with which he and Bathsheba confront their inevitable downfall—as well as their satisfying redemption. *Starred Review* Benedict Carsington, Viscount Rathbourne, is in perfect control of his life until he meets Bathsheba, one of the "Dreadful DeLuceys." One encounter with the lovely widow, and he begins to wonder if his life is not so much perfect as boring. Benedict is certain that he can resist becoming involved with her, but he soon finds himself hiring Bathsheba to teach drawing to his nephew, Peregrine Dalmay. Then Bathsheba's impetuous daughter, Olivia, convinces Peregrine to join her quest to find the DeLucey family pirate treasure, forcing Benedict to become even more entangled with Bathsheba. As the two set off across England to retrieve the wayward young fortune hunters, Benedict is forced to admit that he is not as immune to the tart-tongued Bathsheba as he would like to think. With its splendidly original characters, exquisitely sensual romance, and wonderfully witty writing, the third of RITA Award-winning Chase's fabulous historical Regencies to feature the romantic comeuppance of one of the Carsington men is simply perfect. Delightful, Witty Story with Very Engaging Characters
    By ellejir
"Lord Perfect" is a wonderful example of why Loretta Chase is considered to be one of the top writers of historical romance today. Set in England during the Regency period, the story has a plot that is not particularly ground-breaking--a seemingly mismatched couple go on a road trip together and end up falling in love, yet Chase's characters are so well-drawn and her dialogue so fresh and witty that her material never feels tired or cliched. The *characters* are the real story in this book, and I found them all to be *very* engaging.

The hero of the story is Benedict Carsington, Lord Rathbourne, the eldest of the Earl of Hargate's many sons and an acknowledged paragon in terms of looks, manners and behavior. A widower for several years, Benedict is considered by society to be *perfect*--a consummate aristocrat who never shows his emotions, never makes a scene and lives by his own set of "rules" of socially correct behavior. Into Benedict's well-ordered but emotionally barren life bursts Bathsheba DeLucey Wingate, a stunningly beautiful widow who has the misfortune of being born into the disreputable branch of the DeLucey family that reportedly descended from a pirate. Every one of the so-called "Dreadful DeLuceys" has been a swindler, cheat or gamester and their infamous exploits and status as social pariahs led Bathsheba's late husband's noble family to disinherit him upon his marriage to her. Now a widow with a *very* high-spirited young daughter to manage, Bathsheba has come to London in an attempt to secure her daughter's education and future. Although sparks fly when Bathsheba and Benedict first meet, both realize that a relationship between the two of them would be a potential scandal that could ruin Benedict and shred the scant remains of Bathsheba's reputation. The couple's good intentions to avoid one another are sabotaged by fate when Olivia, Bathsheba's head-strong daughter (who has more that a touch of the devious DeLucey blood in her), and Benedict's young nephew, Peregrine, set off on a quest to discover the fabled DeLucey pirate treasure. Benedict and Bathsheba are thrown together during their pursuit of the children and find their mutual admiration and attraction growing even stronger.

Benedict and Bathsheba are wonderful characters--intelligent, attractive and sympathetic. Their attraction and developing love for each other seems very believable. The secondary characters in this story are also wonderfully well-rounded and entertaining, particularly the children but also Bathsheba and Benedict's other relatives. The prose is bright and clean, the dialogue sparkling with wit and the plot moves along well.

In summary, this is a very entertaining Regency period romance with a charming hero and heroine and extraordinarily witty dialogue.

Highly recommended, particularly for those readers who enjoy well-written, character-driven romance.

A Great Romp - Fun Characters, Action, Unexpected Bits & Parts that prompt me to LOL - even after multiple rereads!
    By Erma
My all time favorites of Loretta Chase are Lord of Scoundrels, Mr Impossible and Lord Perfect & in that order. I reread them about every other year. This book isn't as intriguing as the other two - I felt like I had to slug through the first few chapters. But thereafter the characters, relationship & action really draw you in. There are some scenes that I can imagine so vivdly & a couple that prompt a laugh out loud even when I can anticipate the script.

    perfect hero
    By Gialdini
Some parts of Lord Perfect really grabbed me, deftly and powerfully engaging thoughts and emotions - the hero's nephew, the heroine's daughter, their "Grand Quest," the hero Benedict Carsington, even the hero's father. I loved them all. The only drawback of the book is the heroine - Bathsheba DeLucey is an outcast from society as one of the Dreadful DeLuceys. The problem is she doesn't live up to her reputation at all, making her character disingenuous, contradictory, and generally just fuzzy. She starts out as someone who's reacted to her scandalous family history by going in the opposite direction and trying to be as respectable and straight laced as possible, and trying to raise her daughter above their lowly present station as well. Which is understandable, but her later martyr tendencies really got on my nerves - and she didn't have nearly as much depth or development as Benedict, who, on the other hand, lives up to the title. An awesome, wonderfully romantic hero - a man for whom control and rules are everything. It's when these rules and his control start to disintegrate that things get interesting.

In comparison, Bathsheba falls very flat. But really I liked the rest of the book so much that this flaw, while by no means minor, didn't bother me too much. And Olivia, Bathsheba's daughter, and Peregrine, Benedict's nephew, steal the show during their parts of the book. They conspire to run away in search of buried treasure - well, really it's Olivia's idea and Peregrine, in his efforts to dissuade her, gets dragged along and, before he knows what's happened, he's as invested in the quest as she is. Generally, I find precocious children aggravating in these books, and I can see how they would be obnoxious here, but there was something about Olivia and Peregrine and their noble Quest that struck a chord for me. When Benedict and Bathsheba discover the children have gone missing, they must of course set out in pursuit. Benedict, much like his nephew, gets caught up in an adventure that has him losing control, breaking rules, coming back to life, and coming to terms with a newly realigned perspective on things. Lord Perfect certainly isn't a perfect romance, but it manages to chart a moving journey, nonetheless. I laughed a lot, teared up a bit, and was happy and entertained reading it, so that earns it a passing grade from me.
