Listeners are drawn straight onto the busy set of the "Love of My Life" soap opera, the setting of Palmer's entertaining mystery series, starring head writer Morgan Tyler. There is more adventure off the set than on with a stalker pursuing the lead hunk, Tyler's own tangled romantic life, and a near fatal soap opera celebration in Vegas. Celeste Lawson manages the stretch from narcissistic stars to psychotic stalker with ease. Palmer loves tucking in historic, architectural, and other details, which Lawson conveys easily without losing the pace of the story. Even difficult scenes--from a cast member's battle with a kidney stone to Morgan's desert wanderings after a kidnapping--are plausibly played without excess. Great series, but I think I liked the first two books better
By M. C. Crammer
I don't know why, because this was very well plotted and entertaining. I think perhaps that as the third in the series, the novelty is wearing off for me.

This series has as its detective-heroine Morgan Tyler, a producer-writer of a hit soap opera -- scratch that -- daytime drama. One of the leads has a problem: he's being stalked by a woman who thinks she is married to him. Morgan feels responsible for her stars since if anything happened to them she'd have a serious production problem. So she gets involved in trying to protect him from this women, although he refuses to involve the police. In the process of dealing with this woman, she ends up going to see someone who not long afterwards ends up the victim of foul play. Although one of her boyfriends, a homicide detective, warns her away from involvement, she IS involved, particularly when a murder attempt is made a few days later on someone else involved with the show.

The quick pace, entertaining behind-the-scenes-in-daytime-drama setting, and likeable main character (Morgan) make for a quick and enjoyable read. This is not Elizabeth George, however --like the dramas this author writes about, the emphasis is on entertainment, not high literary or artistic value. I intend to continue reading the series with pleasure, because sometimes I just want to be entertained!

Murder in a small town
By Beverley Strong
A headless, armless torso is found by the host's young son, in the cellar of one of the better houses in a small town, during a dinner party, and so the local gossip begins! Elements of mysteries, illicit love affairs and all of the petty gossip that small towns thrive upon, emerge as everyone speculates on firstly, the identity of the victim and secondly, upon the murderer.Friends Carol Seddon and her next door neighbour, Jude, play detective as a relief from the boredom and insularity of small town life and uncover many secrets involving the town's inhabitants. The story is written in a light hearted way and in the elegant style of many other English mystery tales...I thoroughly enjoyed it !

Good book
By Bookworm
I love this series. Torso in the Town is not my favorite installment, but it's a good one nonetheless. I think the reason I didn't enjoy this one as much is because the townspeople were either excruciatingly annoying or downright evil. In the other books in the series, the townspeople are just quirky and you like to laugh at them. In this book, there just seemed to be more of a menacing tone. Also, there was poor Carole and her breakup with Ted. The woman isn't exactly sunshine and rainbows on her normal days, so you can imagine what she's like after an embarassing breakup.

All that aside, the plot itself is well written and the mystery is tight and interesting. As usual, the revealing of the culprit is a tantalizingly slow, heart-pounding climax. Brett once again throws red herrings everywhere. I absolutely did not predict the culprit correctly.

So other than my slight disappointment with the characters, I enjoyed this book. I look forward to Stabbing in the Stables, which is coming out in August 2006!

Dinner Party Conversation: Be Sure You Get the Joke
By Donald Mitchell
One of my best friends is always asking me for new stories he can tell. He loves to use stories to entertain those at the right and left of him at dinner parties. Presumably, if he had actually attended the dinner party that opens up this book, he would never again need another story.

The Torso in the Town is the third Fethering mystery featuring Carole Seddon (mid-fifties divorced, retired Home Office bureaucrat) and her relatively new neighbor Jude (an alternative healer who has no obvious source of income of about the same age). Carole is sedate, introverted, and concerned about appearances. Jude is a full-tilt boogier, loves people, and cannot wait to get involved in whatever is going on. They share a love of solving local mysteries, especially murders, as amateurs.

One of the charms of this series comes in the clever plots that Simon Brett puts together to allow Carole and Jude to get at the facts to make their discoveries. In this case, Jude has been invited to have dinner with old acquaintances who have recently moved to Fedborough, just up the river Fether from Fethering where Carole and Jude live. Before the meal is done, her hosts' son races up to announce that he's found a body in the basement. In rummaging around behind a wall, the boy had located an old box . . . from which dropped a shriveled human torso. Talk about dropping your turkey on the floor in front of your guests on Thanksgiving!

Carole, meanwhile, is licking her wounds after her brief relationship with local pub keeper, Ted Crisp. She feels embarrassed and doesn't want to be seen. This makes Carole even more standoffish than usual. Jude's story of the torso helps Carole ooze out of her hurting shell. It turns out that Carole had recently been consulting an interior decorator who used to live in the home where the torso was found. Carole finds it easy to drop by and find out what she can learn.

From there, the complications are quite humorous as Carole and Jude become Fedborough's newest odd couple in the eyes of the locals. Initial connections lead to pubs, more drinks, a timely dinner invitation, and lots of gossip about who has done what to whom in the past. Carole and Jude also recruit unlikely assistants (including the boy who found the torso) before the book is over.

The ending will probably not surprise you, but it presents far nicer questions of "what if" than most mysteries develop. I liked the ending best of the three books so far in the series. The ironies are pretty entertaining for those who love irony.

This book has a special treat in it for those who have wanted to know what Jude's last name is: You get two clues via the post man.

The other one was better...
By Fantasy Fan
Having read Colbert's The Magical Worlds of Tolkien's Middle-Earth, I bought this book thinking it would be another insightful analysis of a classic work. Needless to say I was sorely disappointed. Colbert's analysis of the Chronicles is shallower than what he did for Lord of the Rings, and he seems to use it soley to gripe about apparent "flaws" he sees in the books. Unfortunately for him, the "flaws" he points out can be easily countered and answered by the average Elementary-age reader.

During his diatribes, Colbert comes off as disgruntled and clueless. He seems to think that because the Chronicles reflect the social attitudes of the time period that they were written in, that they are automatically repressive of blacks, Arabs, women, and various other groups. Hardly! The Horse and His Boy, which he cited as the primary proof of so-called "racism" is in fact the best refutal of this idea. All the Arabian characters in the book-with the notable exception of Rabadash and Bree's master-come off as interesting and sympathetic characters. The charge of sexism can also be dispelled by this one book; Queen Susan is given a prominant subplot, and Aravis is a beautifully proactive heroine.

While some chapters where exactly what I paid for-thoughtful insights into the influences behind the text-most were faulty complaints against C.S. Lewis and his work. Seeing as how Colbert wasn't near as harsh with Lord of the Rings, I can only conclude that he wrote the book to capitalize on Narnia's current popularity and not out of any deep appreciation for the book.

I say if you're gonna complain about something, don't disguise it as something else! I could have saved twelve bucks if he'd just titled it, "Fifty Dumb Reasons I hate Narnia!"

insight into the magical world of C.S. Lewis
By A Customer
This entertaining yet educational guidebook provides deep insight into the magical world of C.S. Lewis by enlightening readers with the derivations that inspired the author to create Narnia. Obviously aimed at the older fans though youthful enthusiast will appreciate some of the references to Camelot and the Bible. The sidebars are as enlightening as the main text because the audience learns who the real Lucy was, why the name Narnia, and biblical connections like Aslan's Stone Table's connection to the Ten Commandments. In other words, David Colbert provides the "hidden" story within the story. Have a good time and learn why there is a wardrobe, find out if Aslan "Jesus in fur", and observe the intent behind THE LAST BATTLE amongst other deep explanations; just enter the door to understand the meaning of Narnia as Mr. Colbert serves much more than just the symbolism behind Turkish Delight.

Too bad there's not a 2.5 stars - for "OK, but dissapointing"
By R. Miller
We have just finished The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. I borrowed this book from the library as we entered, "The Last Battle". I was looking for something similar to the examination provided in "The Gospel According to Harry Potter". Perhaps some of my dissapointment stems from the fact that this book is lacking quite a bit in the examination of all the Narnia books. While 174 pages in length, the wide printing margins and numerous full page drawings provide little room for real substance. Mr. Colbert does an interesting job of sharing the various Biblical/Scriptural, mythological, and literary history that shaped Lewis' worldview. I was also intrigued by little anecdotes regarding his relationship with J.R.R. Tolkein and other well-known authors of the time.

Ultimately, the book ended on a sour note as Mr. Colbert used a series of Lewis' statements, most outside of "The Chronicles" and some in unknown context, to make a case that Lewis is a blatant racist and sexist. The entire book just fell flat and fails to live up to the claim that it is an "essential guide" to Narnia. The publisher seems to admit to this by providing rave reviews on other Colbert books and doesn't provide even a single positive comment on this work.

Perhaps borrow it to expand your study, but it caries no future use beyond an initial read.

When her rich husband Seamus Meechum walked out on their marriage because he needed his freedom, his sister Glory kicked Carmella Bertrand out of the family mansion. Instead of moping, she finds an apartment in New Orleans' French Quarter and opens Memory Mine, a scrapbooking shop not far from her new abode.

Carmella helps Wren Wright decorate for the latter's pre-wedding gala. Wren is engaged to Jamie Redmond, the owner of a profitable bookstore and creator with his partner Blaine of a software program called Neutron that detects bugs and bombs in newly written software code. When Carmella takes a breather she finds Jamie dead. While Wren tries to cope with her finance's murder, Dunbar Des Lauriers pushes hard to buy Jamie's stock in the bookstore. Glory, who holds the mortgage to Jamie's and Wren's home, threatens to call it in if Wren doesn't sell to her. Blaine claims to have sole rights to Neutron and Carmella finds proof that Jamie was engaged to another woman a year ago without telling Wren. Overwhelmed, Wren asks Carmella to find her fiancé's killer; her inability to refuse places her in danger from a killer without mercy.

Laura Childs is a creative storyteller who grabs reader attention from the time Jaime is murdered and doesn't release it grip until the murderer is found and Carmella is safe. There are numerable suspects with viable motives and readers will have a lot of fun guessing who the real killer is. There are a lot of creative arts and croft tips at the end of the book, a bonus that readers can make use of for the winter holidays. BOUND FOR MURDER raises the bar on amateur sleuth quality.

The Disappearing Groom
By Karen Potts
Carmela Bertrand is helping her friend Wren with her pre-wedding party when she discovers that the groom has been murdered. The victim was the owner of a bookstore and he was also developing a valuable computer program. One man tries to pressure Wren into selling the bookstore and another one tries to take over the rights to the computer program. Carmela wonders if either man had enough of a motive for murder. Interwoven with the mystery is the tiresome story of Carmela's off-again, on-again romance with her neer-do-well, estranged husband, Shamus. There are some loose ends in the story and Carmela takes some ridiculous chances such as entering a cemetery along at night, although she admits she knows better. The best parts are about New Orleans, scrapbooking, and some of Carmela's interactions with her friends.

Disappointing third book
By Monica G.
This third book in Childs' scrapbooking mystery series was a real disappointment to me. The dialogue was totally sappy, whereas in the previous novels in this series, the characters spoke in a realistic manner. Here, they seemed almost flawless, and more than a little saccharine.

The mystery was pretty easy to figure out and the storyline seemed thin. Aside from Carmela's friendship with Ava, this book did almost nothing to develop the relationships Carmela has with the other characters. The ending (of the book, not the resolution of the mystery) came completely out of left field given the extremely minor interaction between Carmela and another character. I'll hang in there for her next book in this series, but this one really let me down.

First in the Drake Sisters series from the "reigning queen of the paranormal romance"--#1 New York Times bestselling author of the Carpathian and Sea Haven novels.

The story of Sarah, the eldest of the extraordinary—and magical—Drake sisters, now rewritten and expanded, in this very special collector’s edition…

“Sarah Drake has come home.” Ever since Damon Wilder sought refuge in Sea Haven, he’s heard the same breathless rumor pass the lips of nearly every local in the sleepy coastal town. Even the wind seems to whisper her name—a reverie so powerfully suggestive that it carries the curious Damon to Sarah’s clifftop home, and seeks to shelter him there.

But Damon has not arrived alone. A killer has tracked him to Sea Haven, and into the shadows of Drake House. But Sarah has her own secrets, and danger—as well as a desire more urgent than either has ever known—is just a whisper away…

Magic in the Wind previously appeared in Lover Beware.

Christine Feehan is the author of Dark Wolf, Dark Lycan, Air Bound, Leopard's Prey, Samurai Game, and numerous other bestselling novels.

By Samantha
This was the very first book that I bought on my Kindle that wasn’t free. It’s short, I finished it the same day that I started it. I loved it four and a half years ago and I still love it.

It starts off the series by introducing the love interest and how quirky the small town is before introducing the readers to the main character. I really loved that the author didn’t just keep it Sarah and Damon, she brought some sisters in and Jonas, whose book I am really looking forward to.

The writing is descriptive yet simple, keeping the story to the point. It mixed realistic with magic and the way they fell in love didn’t feel rushed, maybe because they mentioned how much they talked and that they talked everyday. The connection is just so strong that I can’t be mad about how fast they fell in love.

While keeping the mystery and action and magic in the front, the author also gives the readers a little history about the Drake sisters, especially the most important part that the seventh sister will have and honestly, even though Elle’s book starts off so horribly, I think it’s got to be my favorite of the Drake Sister Series. It makes you want to stick around to see how the other sisters fall in love up to Elle’s book.

I’ve read this series so many times and I can say with absolute certainty that I will always keep coming back for more.

This is an author that gets better with age...
By Chelsea G. Humphrey
I started the Drake series in the middle with Oceans of Fire and then read on with Hannah's story. I thought it was a mistake starting in the middle, but after reading the first in the series I am not sure if I would have continued with the remaining books. I really enjoyed some of the later books in the Drake series, but the first was somewhat disappointing. It could be the fact that the book was rushed and crammed into 100 pages or so. For one, I thought Sarah embraced the prophecy a little too easily for someone who wanted so hard to avoid it. Two, I think Damon coped well with losing the full capabilities of his leg and hip. Personally, I would have been a little self-conscious about myself. If I was a man trying to measure up to a woman as independent and strong as Sarah I would have found that limp a little more of a problem for Damon than it was. I still think in the end he could have gotten over his pride to open up to Sarah I just thought that it happened a little too easily. Suspense is half the fun in these books and it didn't have much of it in this particular book. Three, I thought the relationship just happened so quickly even if it was a fated romance it could have developed a little more. I loved the way that I could still see the love-hate relationship between Hannah and Jonas even in the first of the series. It was a quick read and it gave me some background info on the Drakes so I do not regret reading it, but I do wish that it was longer and had more suspense.

Great book. Beautiful romance and action.
By Amazon Customer
I really loved Sarah and Damon as a couple, truly fit together and his brilliant mind able to open to the seemingly not scientifically understandable. The killer torturing triad certainly get their due, one way or another. I loved the sense of family between the sisters and her new to town man were gracefully handled, enjoy!

From Publishers Weekly
Martyn's first novel, The Lady and the Unicorn, won the RITA Award for Best First Book from the Romance Writers of America, so readers will understandably be eagerly awaiting this follow-up. In 14th-century England, Lady Johanna FitzHenry is stuck in an arranged marriage to Sir Fulk de Enderby, who delights in beating her. Given the laws that entitle him to do so, Johanna's only chance at freedom is to find a man to claim in court that she married him first. Enter valorous Geraint, a troubled fellow on the run whom Johanna only knows as Gervase de Laval, supposedly a scholar. For a price, he is willing to pretend to be her first husband. Unfortunately, the two do not get along a problem, since they must persuade the court that they're in love. Then Gervase discovers that Johanna has renounced sex and love because of Fulk's violent treatment of her, and it becomes Gervase's personal mission to liberate her in every way. Johanna is the kind of medieval "women's libber" often found populating historical fiction, and her oil-and-water exchanges with Gervase are sprightly fun. But there are flaws. The period dialect tends to grate on modern ears and the truth concerning what Gervase is really up to, involving King Edward, comes so late in the drawn-out tale that the historical half of "historical romance" becomes incidental. By the time Gervase confesses his true identity and motivation for concealing it, Johanna may still care, but readers no longer will.

From Booklist
In 1322, Lady Johanna Fitzhenry attempts to escape her brutal husband by visiting her ill father, but her mother concocts a convoluted scheme to pretend that Johanna was secretly married to someone else first. The "someone else" is a man posing as a scholar who is being blackmailed into helping because he's on the run from enemy soldiers. British author Martyn's busy plot involves the imposter and Johanna's evolving love, the various ruses they must use to convince the authorities that they were indeed previously married, a separation while he goes off to war in France and she becomes a lady-in-waiting to the queen, and Johanna's discovery of his true identity. RITA Award-winner Martyn's English medieval historical setting and fascinating court intrigue are more authentic than those of most romances, but they do slow down the love story. Readers who prefer a mere backdrop for sexy romance will be disappointed, but those who like lots of social and political historical detail will be pleased. Mary K. Chelton

Should it be renamed 'The Blight Made Me Doze'?
By M. A. Bechaz
I quite enjoyed the first chapter or two of this book. But from then on it began to dawdle off downhill in the most tedious way, going on and on and on....

Aargh!

The main two characters in this book are symbolic of the cause of almost all the problems in the world right now: SILLY PEOPLE CONSTANTLY FIGHTING OVER NOTHING! I got sick of them really quickly. Honestly, I hate it when grown ups fight like three year olds. He was a trained fighter, she was a noblewoman...surely they should have had some sense of decorum and propriety, not to mention personal discipline, especially given that both their futures were on the line!

Also, the standard of writing in this book was definitely sub-par. The author seemed reluctant to use punctuation, and even more so to use it correctly...it wasn't uncommon for a sentence to stretch for five lines without even a comma in it to break it up. The writing was choppy, narrative skipped from character to character so much it was often difficult to know whose viewpoint you were seeing the story from, and the exchanges of dialogue between characters did not flow like a normal conversation would. (It was like a talkfest between self-obsessed bimbos who don't listen to each other.) The effort the writer went to in doing her historical research was wasted by the characters just not being believable in their settings. And the story just went on and on...450 pages in all. All the important stuff could have been said in 250 pages, and it would have made for a much better book that wasn't so cluttered by painful filler.

I can't believe this writer has won a writing award (for another book). Man, do they give those things away in cereal boxes or something? I expected better writing than this from an award winner, especially given that she's an Aussie like me. I like to think that we Australians can write pretty well...boy has this put a dent in my national pride!

Furthermore, there were logic gaps in the storyline. Like when one of the characters, Johanna, who has been married before, is somehow completely ignorant of marriage traditions such as banns...surely she would already know about all this from personal experience if she had gone through it before?

The fact that this was (very loosely) based on a real historical story intrigued me. In the hands of a competent writer it might have been absolutely wonderful. But in the hands of this writer...look, I've read worse books, but not too many of them. To put it flatly, this was a yawnfest. When books are good, I can't put them down, and inevitably read them within a day or two. But this took me MONTHS to get through. I kept putting it down so I could go off and read other, better books. I got through about forty or fifty other books before I finished this one! I just couldn't commit very much time to something I didn't particularly enjoy.

But the joke's on me. I bought another one of her books at the same time as I bought this one. So the writer has made money off me for both of those books regardless of whether or not she deserved to! Rats!

Beauty Abused
By Exotikat
As soon as I finished this novel, I immediately went looking for more by the same author. This was truly an historical romance. Inspired by a real Medieval divorce case, the story is about Johanna, so abused by her cruel husband that she is ready to face death to escape. Fate sends her home to her mother, who blackmails a "captured" rebel by forcing him to play Joanna's first husband in a conspiracy to release Joanna from her hideous marriage. Trapped in a situation not of his making, Geraint finds himself falling in love with the icy Joanna, longing to melt her reserve, heal her psychic wounds and become her protector. Unfortunately, his real obligations lie elsewhere, with powerful men, and their paths must part. I confess that the added attraction in this novel was the link with history, which is skillfully woven into the story. Joanna and Geraint are both embroiled with the politics of real British history, and the sights, sounds and smells of an age long gone fill the pages. As the story races to its climax, involving the documented capital punishment of several nobles, we fear for the safety and future of the two star-crossed lovers. Isolde Martyn writes well; the trite cliches and often repeated formulas of so many Romances are noticeably and happily absent. The characters of both the lovers and the other individuals who people the story are well developed - Ms. Martyn has made history come alive and created a pair of passionate, believable lovers and I am eager to discover more of her work.

If You Can't Get Enough Bickering in Real Life..Read This!
By Ms Winston
Isolde Martyn's "The Knight and the Rose" had much going for it until she apparently decided that a disagreeable heroine would hit the literary spot. If you are a reader who enjoys endless bickering and conflict based primarily on misunderstandings between the hero and heroine, this is your book; however, I was annoyed about a third of the way though and serious considered not finishing the novel. Because the premise was so interesting to me I decided to complete the book: the story is based upon a real court case of the Middle Ages involving a man who posed as the handfast husband of an abused wife in order to save her from further physcial harm at the hands of her true husband.
Martyn has a good grasp of the time period (England in the year 1322, a very few years before Roger Mortimer and Queen Isabel deposed Edward II) and the culture. She has created a very appealing hero in Geraint, and some memorable secondary characters as well. Unfortunately, Johanna FitzHenry is one of those heroines who is characterized by many romance readers as TSTL (too stupid to live): her judgement is terrible, her logic is flawed, and even when she knows she is wrong she persists in her contrary ways. I found her grating in the extreme.
Ms Martyn is a talented author, who obviously put much time and thought into her research and the writing of this novel. It is a shame that she gave us a conventional romance novel heroine of the feisty-for-its-own-sake school: if someone is trying to save you from a fate worse than death, at the very least common sense dictates that you support them, not thwart them at every turn. I hope that this type of hero/heroine relationship is not characteristic of all of Ms Martyn's novels.

In Bodies We've Buried, the very first book to reveal the inside workings of the National Forensic Academy, two NFA administrators offer readers and CSI fans exclusive access to a world normally off-limits to all but law enforcement officials, doctors, and scientists: inside the only hands-on crime-scene investigation school of its kind, where students are trained in burial recovery with actual human remains. This is the shocking, uncensored, and sometimes darkly humorous reality of forensic investigation. It features firsthand stories of the students themselves and shows how the remarkable science of CSI has solved some of the most famous cases in recent history.

From the world-wide authority on crime scene investigation, Bodies We've Buried is the never-before-told story of CSI investigation as it really is.

From Publishers Weekly
The latest authors to capitalize on the CSI craze are well situated to add something new to the literature. Hallcox and Welch run the National Forensic Academy, a state-of-the-art, hands-on crime scene investigation school for people in law enforcement, but those impressive credentials do not translate into a good read. Despite some interesting war stories, the bulk of the book is an overly technical, step-by-step description of the course of study given to academy students ("The problem, however, is that ninhydrin is not reliable when it comes to the zinc chloride process"), which is likely to glaze the eyes of all but the most die-hard fans of the genre. In addition, the authors' failed efforts at sardonic humor ("Though there are probably a few people we could think of to stick in front of a moving vehicle, our grant does not allow us to kill anybody"), and clunky, florid phrasing ("With the first lightning strike of a tree witnessed by man, he has forever been obsessed with this primordial heat") make what should have been a fascinating insider account a hard slog. From Booklist
With CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and its spin-offs dominating television ratings, interest in forensic science has been on the rise. When the National Forensic Academy opened its doors, administrators Hallcox and Welch were desperate for students; now they admit only police officers and have three-year-long waiting lists. Their book outlines the 10-week program and shares with readers the gritty reality of forensic work. The authors caution that the actual work is a lot less glamorous than it looks on TV and often involves crawling through the mud or examining putrid corpses. And nothing is as simple as it seems, from photographing crime scenes--where the details, from film speed to lighting, are crucial--to processing evidence, which is selectively sent off to a state lab to be dealt with. Students in the course also pay a visit to the infamous Body Farm, where they examine and analyze decomposing corpses. Given the popularity of CSI and its many imitators, many will find reading about the real science enlightening and engrossing. Kristine Huntley

Great Read!
By Tammy C
Bought this as a gift item, but immediately recommended it as another gift for someone who is wanting to study forensics. Nicely written and the photos are helpful and not too gruesome.

Very informative
By Brad Ballard
I was surprised to see nobody had reviewed this book yet. I read it over a year ago but I remember it being a good jack of all trades sort of primer. A chapter on photography, chapter on fires, etc. Lot of new stuff not in other books I had read. Really good.

Flawed but good reading
By Fred Bortz "Dr. Fred"
I reviewed this book for several newspapers and have my full published review posted at my online Science Shelf book review archive, where you can find details to support my conclusion.

The authors (Jarrett Hallcox and Amy Welch, not Bill Bass who only wrote the foreword) manage the world's premier CSI training program, but they are not trained scientists and sometimes misstate the science. Despite obvious errors (at least to someone with some scientific training), the book is good reading when the authors stick to their personal observations of the famed "Body Farm" and other venues of the ten-week hands-on training course.

They are also not professional authors, and better editing could have helped them avoid some lapses into self-promotion as well the above noted problems with the science. If you like watching the CSI franchise on TV and you're looking for entertainment without absolute accuracy, this book is a good choice.
